Sustainable livestock and pasture management
Despite the high importance of the livestock sector in Kyrgyzstan, overall productivity of domestic animals remains very low. While overall stocking numbers tend to increase, the low quality and quantity of fodder production is a major problem. Due to overgrazing, large pasture areas are severely degraded, especially those in close distance to settlements. Activities of RAS JA in this sector focus on:
- Proper management of domestic animals in order to increase productivity
- Introduction of improved livestock breeds
- Fodder production and proper feeding of domestic animals
- Animal health/ prevention of diseases
- Pasture monitoring and planning of sustainable pasture use
- Rehabilitation measures for degraded pasture areas
